Polycarbonate (PC): High Heat and Impact Resistance
Polycarbonate is one of the strongest materials available for desktop 3D printing. Used in motorcycle helmets and bulletproof glass, this plastic offers heat resistance up to 110–120°C and exceptional impact strength.
Printing it requires expertise: a nozzle temperature of 270–310°C, a heated bed at 100–120°C, and a fully enclosed, warm enclosure are all essential. PC is also highly sensitive to moisture — printing without proper drying produces brittle results. Due to these challenges, it is typically printed through a professional 3D printing service.
For automotive under-hood components, lighting elements, protective covers, and high-temperature functional prototypes, PC is the material to try before turning to metal. PC-ABS blends also deliver similar performance with easier printability.
