How Should Filament Be Stored? Moisture and Drying
All filaments absorb moisture from the air to some degree, and wet filament seriously degrades print quality: steam explosions in the nozzle cause a crackling sound, bubbles and stringing appear on the surface, and layer adhesion weakens.
Proper storage: keep filaments in airtight containers or vacuum bags together with silica gel packets. Highly absorbent materials such as Nylon, PVA, and TPU can last only a few hours in the open air; PLA and PETG are more tolerant but are also affected over the course of weeks.
Moisture-damaged filament can be rescued: drying in a filament dryer or in an oven at 50–70°C for several hours is usually sufficient. Moisture control during professional production is a standard part of our procedure.
