Is PLA+ Really Stronger Than Regular PLA? What Is PLA+ and Who Benefits from It?

PLA+ is a variant produced by adding toughness-enhancing additives to standard PLA feedstock. The formula varies from brand to brand, which is why “PLA+” is not a single standard but more of a family. The common goal, however, is always the same: to reduce PLA’s most well-known weakness — its brittleness.
Where does regular PLA fall short?
Classic PLA is rigid but brittle. Under load it tends to crack suddenly rather than bend. It delivers excellent results for a desktop scale model, a decorative object, or a dimensional check. But in a part that needs to be screwed in, absorb impacts, or flex repeatedly, that brittleness becomes a problem.
What does PLA+ change here?
The gain with PLA+ is mostly on the toughness side. Where regular PLA would crack from the same impact, PLA+ is more likely to bend and delay the damage. Layer adhesion is also generally a bit better, which increases the part’s resistance to delamination in the layer direction.

Partly, yes. PLA+ is more durable in terms of impact and flex, but do not expect miracles when it comes to heat resistance. A part sitting inside a car parked in the sun, or a component operating near a motor, will still fall short. For situations like those, materials such as PETG, ABS, or even nylon make more sense.
In short, PLA+ is a smart upgrade over regular PLA for parts that are handled daily, occasionally take a knock, but are not exposed to heat. In models and decorative pieces the difference is rarely felt; in a functional part you will feel it in your hands.
