3D Printer Maintenance: Monthly Checklist

Regular maintenance preserves print quality and catches problems before they escalate. Here is a monthly checklist for a heavily used FDM printer:

• Check belt tension and adjust if necessary
• Clean the linear rods and rails, then lubricate them with the appropriate oil
• Clean and grease the Z-axis lead screw
• Remove burnt plastic residue from the outside of the nozzle using a brass brush
• Clean filament dust from the extruder gear
• Blow out the fan blades and cooling ducts with compressed air
• Wipe the build plate surface with isopropyl alcohol
• Check the tightness of all screw connections, especially on the hotend and gantry
• Inspect the cables at all movement points for signs of wear
