With the L4 model announced on September 2, 2026, LightMake brings a different hardware approach to this problem: instead of using a single nozzle, the printer uses four independent print heads within the same system. The LightMake L4 aims to handle color or material changes by selecting a print head, while keeping four filaments ready in separate extruders and hot ends. According to the manufacturer, the L4 supports common FDM materials such as PLA, PLA+, ABS, PETG, TPU, ASA, and PVA. Carbon fiber reinforced PLA and PETG are also among the listed options. For more demanding materials such as PA and PC, an optional thermal top cover is required. While the open-frame base design provides easy access, it also makes ambient temperature and airflow management more important when printing ABS, ASA, PA, or PC.

It is reported that the chamber can be heated with the optional top cover, and that add-on modules such as filament drying and automatic print removal are also offered. These may be practical in a production workflow; however, the total investment, accessory requirements, and consumables management should be calculated together. Especially with flexible filaments, friction in four separate feed paths and spool arrangement may be just as decisive in daily use as the technical specifications.
