Firmware Update: When and Why?
Firmware is the software running on your printer’s mainboard that controls all of its hardware (Marlin and Klipper are the most common). Updates bring security fixes, new features (advanced calibration, input shaping), and bug repairs.
The most critical safety feature is thermal runaway protection: if the temperature sensor fails, it shuts off the heater to prevent fire risk. On older printers this protection may be disabled — that alone is a reason to update.
Before updating, note down your current settings (E-steps, PID values, offsets); you will need to re-enter and re-calibrate them after the update. For Klipper users, updates are easier but backing up the configuration file is essential. If you are unsure, our technical service can handle firmware operations safely.
