Safety in Resin Printing: What You Need to Know
SLA/resin printers deliver stunning detail, but liquid resin in its uncured state is an irritant for skin and the respiratory tract; repeated exposure without precautions can lead to allergic sensitisation.
The basic rules: always wear nitrile gloves when handling resin (latex lets resin permeate through), work in a well-ventilated area or use a filtered enclosure, wear safety glasses against splashes, and wash parts with isopropyl alcohol then fully cure them under UV — a fully cured part is safe to handle.
Waste management matters: liquid resin must never be poured down the drain; it should be cured solid in sunlight before disposal. Wash alcohol should be disposed of the same way — cure it first. If you have young children or pets at home, FDM is a far safer starting point than resin printing.
